1. UVB phototherapy
The ultra-modern apparatus produces UVB rays with a narrow light spectrum of 311 nm, which has been proven to be maximally effective for the treatments of psoriasis, a-topic dermatitis, pruritic skin diseases, and others. The procedures are administered 5 times weekly, for a total of approximately 20 to 30 procedures to resolve the skin condition. The duration and dosages of the UVB treatment program in every individual session is closely monitored by the specialist.
2. PUVA therapy
This is a type of UVA phototherapy which combines the administration of a medical drug, which increases the sensitivity of the skin to the subsequent UVA light treatment. This therapy is used to effectively treat dermatology diseases such as:
The department provides two types of PUVA therapy:
PUVA therapy is administered four times monthly, and the typical treatment course requires between 20 and 30 procedures.
3. UV Hardening: desensitization of allergic skin to sun exposure
This treatment is a new method to protect sensitive skin from allergic reactions, which is now offered in Tokuda Hospital Sofia dermatology department. The treatment program includes gradually exposing skin to increasing dosages of UV light. The procedures are conducted with specialized apparatus under very strictly controlled dosages of a combination of A and B ultraviolet light. After 30 days of treatment the skin develops resistance to sun exposure, which provides protection for at least one season free of symptoms of solar dermatosis including sun burns, rashes, and itching. We prepare individual plans for each patient. The procedures can be performed at the most 5 times per week or a maximum of 20 times per month, the therapy is suitable for people with very light or sensitive skin.
