Acibadem City Clinic Tokuda Hospital is the biggest private hospital in Bulgaria. It was officially opened on 28th of November 2006 as part of a Japanese medical corporation, owned by the physician and entrepreneur Dr. Torao Tokuda. In 2016 the hospital became part of Acibadem City Clinic, medical care group founded after the acquisition and merger of Acibadem Healthcare Holding and City Clinic. Acibadem City Clinic is the biggest medical care chain in Bulgaria with 4 hospitals, 5 oupatient centers, 2500 medical specialisits, 700 of which physiciand and 750 hospital beds.

Acibadem City Clinic Tokuda Hospital’s Mission is to ensure access of each patient in need of contemporary medical help to timely and qualitative treatment while keeping his dignity and respecting his individual requirements.

The main principles of the hospital include uninterruptedness and non rejection of medical help, and also placing the patient in the center of medical help, prohibition of unregulated payments and respecting the patients’ rights with no regards of their race, social status and religion.

The holistic multidisciplinary approach is the main model of providing medical care. This is the principle of creating treatment algorithms for all the patients. High qualification of medical doctors and healthcare professionals, comfort conditions and modern equipment are fundamental preconditions for executing of numerous highly specialized and avant-guard procedures, unique for the region and even worldwide.

We attract not only patients, but also many foreign specialists to constantly exchange experience and develop new practices and procedures. Over 100 different practical seminars and trainings for professionals and patients take place each year in the congress center of Tokuda.

In 2016 Acibadem City Clinic Tokuda Hospital becomes the second and the biggest hospital in Bulgaria to acquire accreditation by the world acknowledged system JCI (Joint Commission International). The accreditation ensures the implementation of many policies and strategies to continuously improve the level of hospital care and certifies that patients are treated in the most safe and responsible manner.  

The Building

The hospital is built on 52 000 square meters floor area in the south part of the Sofia’s housing district Lozenetz. It has 11 floors, one of which is underground. The medical equipment is state-of-the-art and is renewed constantly according to the world innovations in medicine. Acibadem City Clinic Tokuda Hospital is a massive investment in the Healthcare Sector of Bulgaria. In 2006 the hospital is awarded with ‘Investment of the Year’ award and the same year it was also given the prestigious award ‘Building of the Year’ for its contemporary design and project with care for the patients and employees. 

The structure of the hospital is multidisciplinary and almost all medical disciplines are covered here. It has 37 clinics and departments, 3 surgery wards with 22 operating theaters, equipped with modern medical eqipment. The hospital has 575 hospital beds (and capacity for 1000), adapted to the individual needs of the patients.

Every year Acibacem City Clinic Tokuda Hospital serves more than 280 000 patients, 2500 of which foreign citizens, 13 000 surgeries are performed, more than 900 babies are born.


The Hospital is a laureate of many other Bulgarian and International awards since its opening.
In 2008 it was awarded the ‘Bosei – striving for the stars’ award for total quality management.
In 2009 Tokuda Hospital is given the award of Mark Institute for the ‘Best Healthcare Brand’.
In 2010 the hospital won the award for Best Website in Healthcare Sector, given by the Bulgarian Web Association.
Since 2010 Tokuda Hospital got best ratings for private hospital from the Bulgarian Association for Patients’ Protection.
In 2012 the Bulgarian Association for Patients’ Protection gave the hospital a special award for Overall Achievement in protecting the patients’ rights in Bulgaria.
In the end of 2012 Tokuda Hospital Sofia was given the ‘Little Prince’ award by the Minister of Healthcare for its support for the fight against the autism.
