What to expect before your procedure?

We prefer that you send your medical records in advance to us, also please bring copies or your records and a list of all the medications you are currently taking to your appointment. During your pre-procedural appointment, your vascular specialist will review your medical documentation, perform diagnostic, clinical, and imaging tests, and physical assessments.

During this stage, your specialist shall confirm your treatment plan and upon need schedule additional exams or testing with other medical specialities to address any existing health issues to be sure you are ready for your treatment, to minimize any risks, and to ensure the optimal results of your treatment.

Should you not have a complete set of medical records, of course we could arrange a comprehensive set of physician consultations and tests to diagnose and design a treatment plan based on your individual needs.

How long does a typical surgery last?

Depending on the specific type of treatment an average vascular surgery lasts approximately one and half hours but also varies based on the medical complexity of your case. Before your surgery, your anesthesiologist will consult with you to determine the best type of sedation for you based on individual profile. Our operation theaters are located on the second floor of our hospital and our vascular surgery and angiology in-patient clinic is located on the seventh floor.

How long is the diagnostics, treatment, recovery process, and when would I be able to travel back home?

Typically our diagnostics, treatment, and recovery process is as follows:

Day 1- Diagnostics and Planning: Consultations, clinical & imaging testing, treatment planning, and admission into our hospital
Day 2- Treatment: Treatment or Surgical Intervention
Day 3-5 Post-Operative Monitoring and Recovery: time frame varies by treatment performed and individual recovery time

When can I travel and back to work estimation:
As with any surgical intervention, we recommend waiting for at least 5 days after a vascular procedure before traveling back home. Before hospital discharge our clinic performs a series of check-ups to monitor the recovery process as well as provides post-operative advice and instructions. The hospital stay can be extended upon medical necessity and/or patient choice to ensure the patient is ready to be discharged from the hospital, however additional charges may apply. On average, most patients are able to return to work within two-weeks post operatively.

Should a patient wish to stay a few days before or after their procedure for rest, recovery or relaxation, we have hospital guest rooms located on the fifth floor of our hospital offered by our medical tourism partner Geya Tours As an alternative accommodation offer, Geya Tours can arrange reservations in a hotel located directly across the street from our hospital called the Park Inn for more information click here

Follow-Up Care:

After your procedure, you will be provided with medication prescriptions and a comprehensive medical report. Your report will detail your medical history, exam and clinical testing results, pre-post operative condition, your treatment, and a post treatment plan which can be given to your family doctor or vascular surgeon back home. Our vascular surgery and angiology clinic is dedicated to maintain contact to advise and manage your follow-up care with you or your vascular specialist or doctor in your home country.

Possible Post Surgical Complications:

The complication rate from vascular surgeries is relatively low and the most frequent complications are bleeding and/or re-thrombosis of the arterial reconstruction. Our department complication rates are monitored closely and meet EU and international standards. To minimize the risk of developing any complications your vascular surgeon shall take numerous precautions including: performing thorough post-operative check-ups, prescribing short term and long term anticoagulant therapies, and providing individualized advice to help you during your recovery process.
