Tokuda Hospital Sofia marks its five year anniversary

The hospital shall continue to develop innovative medical service and expand patient access for medical tourists by attaining a Joint Commission International (JCI) hospital accreditation, via its partnership with Cambridge University Hospital UK, and launching an International Patient Ward

Tokuda Hospital Sofia, the largest private hospital in the region and the most successful private health care sector investment in Bulgaria, celebrates its five year anniversary. Since its opening in 2006, the hospital has had a 20% annual growth rate of patients choosing Tokuda, and the number of international patients and medical tourists travelling from other countries to Tokuda for medical care has been steadily increasing. During the first seven months of 2011, the number of international patients served was 4,177 people, which was an annual increase of 37% compared to the same period in 2010.  Tokuda’s international patients are mainly from Canada, the USA, the Russian Federation and former Soviet Republics, Middle East countries, Greece, Serbia, Romania, and Macedonia.

In 2010, Tokuda became an affiliated partner of the Cambridge University Hospital UK to co-develop good healthcare management practices and to conduct experience exchanges between medical specialists from Bulgaria, Japan, and the UK. A key partnership priority is to support Tokuda Hospital Sofia’s market entry into the international medical tourism industry. In response, Tokuda is launching its International Ward and shall expand its partnership network and international representatives in countries in which there is need for accessible and contemporary medical care. Tokuda’s International Ward shall also provide a platform for highly sought international medical specialists to provide their services direct to regional patients to avoid additional travel costs for those seeking medical care in other countries.

In the International Ward, Bulgarian and international patients shall receive treatment from world leading guest-doctors in close collaboration with Tokuda’s specialists capitalizing on Tokuda’s resources to create patient value. The guest-doctors model is a globally validated concept and this type of collaboration and experience exchange leads to excellence in clinical results and medical service.  The International Ward was created in response to the increased interest towards Bulgaria as a preferred medical tourism destination. Globalization and free information access has lead to millions of people traveling across the world to seek medical diagnostics, treatment, and rehabilitation services in countries offering high value and state of the art technology medical care delivered by qualified professionals at competitive pricing.

The Japanese hospital will ensure consistent high treatment quality and deliver the highest standards in patients’ rights provided by highly qualified teams according to international hospital accreditation standards. Tokuda Hospital Sofia is the first hospital in Bulgaria to begin the JCI Accreditation- the highest and most widely recognized internal accreditation standard in health care.

Tokuda was built and equipped to deliver quality, patient comfort, and security: with an over 1000 hospital bed capacity covering 32 medical specialties including Cardiac Surgery, Invasive Cardiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, OB GYN, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Breast Surgery Center, Plastic Surgery, Dermatology, Pediatrics, and others.
