Dr. Dimitar Nikolov - Department chief

Dr. Nikolov graduated from medical school in 1987, and has two specializations: surgery and cardiac surgery. He has also added specializations in Germany, the USA and Japan. In 1990, he began working in the general hospital “Sveta Ekaterina” and earned 17 years of experience in cardiac surgery. He was appointed the chief resident of "Sveta Ekaterina", and for the last two years of his tenure at the hospital he was a member of the executive department “Transplantation and Artificial Hearts”. He joined Tokuda Hospital Sofia in April 2007 and leads the cardiac surgery department and operation block number two. Dr. Nikolov has numerous medical publications in both Bulgarian and international medical journals, and he has participated in many scientific conferences locally and abroad. He is a member the European Association of Cardiac Surgery, the Bulgarian Union of Cardiology, and the Bulgarian Association of Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery. In 2002, he received the “Bulgarian Doctor of the Year” award.

Prof. Alexander Tschirkov - consultant in the Cardiac Surgery Depatment

Prof. Alexander Tschirkov is a famous cardiac surgeon, professor at the Freiburg's University, who lives in Germany from 44 years. In 1984 he was invited by the Bulgarian government to return to the his country and to develope and establish the foundation for modern cardiology and cardiac surgery. In 1986 he performed the first successfull heart transplantaion that was also the first in the whole Eastern block and USSR as well. He implemented the most modern and cutting edge methods in medicine in Bulgaria. Now Prof. Alexander Tschirkov consults patients and perform operations at Tokuda Hospital Sofia. For contacts: 003592/403 4889.

 Dr. Plamen Purvanov - cardiac surgeon

Dr. Purvanov graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 1990, and earned his specialization in surgery in 2000, and in cardiac surgery in 2004. He has also specialized in the Texas Heart University in Houston, Texas, USA. After his graduation he began working in the emergency medical department of the 28th Sofia Medical Center. From 1994-2007, he was a member of the cardiac surgical team of the National Cardiology Hospital and he joined our hospital in May 2007.

Dr. Todor Yakimov - cardiac surgeon

Dr. Yakimov graduated in medicine in 1992 at MU-Sofia. He has two specialties - General Surgery and Cardiac Surgery. He became part of St. Catherine Specialized Cardiac Hospital at 1994.  From 2004 to 2008 he worked in University Hospital "St. George" - Plovdiv at the Cardiac Surgery Clinic. Dr. Yakimov joined "Tokuda Hospital Sofia" in January 2008.

Dr. Sevdalin Kutzarov - cardiac surgeon 

Dr. Kutzarov graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 1992, and added his specialization in surgery in 2001 and in cardiac surgery in 2006. He has also specialized in Germany and Japan, and has 15 years of professional experience gained from the cardiac surgery department of the National Cardiology Hospital. Dr. Kutzarov has been with our hospital since the middle of 2007.

Dr. Ivan Kouchukov- vascular surgeon

Dr. Kouchukov graduated from the Stara Zagora Medical University in 1992, and has specializations in surgery and vascular surgery. He has additional specializations earned in Belgium and Great Britain. He worked for eight years in the vascular surgery clinic of the Stara Zagora Medical University. From 2000 to 2007, he was a team member of the cardiac surgery department of the National Cardiology Hospital. He has been a member of our department since May 2007.

Dr. Dimitar Bozhinov- cardiologist 

Dr. Bozhinov graduated from the Pleven Medical University in 1990. In 1995, he received his specialization in internal diseases and added his specialization in cardiology in 2004. He has a certification “Echocardiography Expert Level Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE) and Stress Echocardiography”. After his graduation, he began working in the general hospital “Sveta Petka” in Vidin, Bulgaria, where he earned 13 years of experience. In 2003, he accepted an offer to work in the university hospital “Sveta Ekaterina”, where he worked for 4 years before joining our cardiac surgery department in 2007.

Dr. Samuil Kazakov- doctor

Dr. Kazakov graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 2003, and worked as an intern in the university hospital “Sveta Ekaterina”. He has been a member of our cardiac surgery department since May 2007.

 

 

 Dr. Asen Kelchev - doctor

Dr. Kelchev graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 2004, and worked as an intern in the university hospital “Sveta Ekaterina”. He has been a member of our cardiac surgery department since May 2007.

Dr. Hristo Hristov - doctor

Dr. Hristov graduated from the Plovdiv Medical University in 2002, and worked in the Plovdiv Emergency Medical Center and in the cardiology clinic in the university hospital “Sveta Ekaterina”. He has been a member of our hospital since the middle of 2007.

Dr. Aleksander Petkov- anesthesiologist

Dr. Petkov graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 1987, and received his specialization in anesthesiology and intensive care in 1994. He has also specialized in Lozano, Switzerland, and completed post graduate medical training on echocardiography. After his graduation he worked for two years in the local hospital in Kalofer, Bulgaria. He has 17 years of experience as an anesthesiologist and re-animator gained in the National Cardiology Hospital’s intensive care unit of the cardiac surgery department. Dr. Petkov has been a member of our team since May 2007.

Dr. Nikolai Uvaliev - anesthesiologist

Dr. Uvaliev graduated from the Varna Medical University in 1994, and received his specialization in anesthesiology and intensive care in 2003. He has received specializations in the Czech Republic, Germany, and Japan. After his graduation he began working in the general hospital in Turgovishte. From 1999 to 2006, he worked in the intensive care clinic of the cardiac and vascular surgery department of the university hospital “Sveta Ekaterina”. He has been a member of our team since the end of 2006.

Dr. Yasen Getzov - anesthesiologist

Dr. Getzov graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 1999, and received his specialization in anesthesiology and intensive care in 2006. He has six years of experience gained from working the university hospital “Sveta Ekaterina”, and has earned a specialization in pediatric surgery clinic in Holland. Dr. Getzov joined the cardiac surgery department of Tokuda Hospital Sofia in May 2007.

Dr. Nikolai Dimitrov - anesthesiologist

Dr. Dimitrov graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 2000, and received his specialization in anesthesiology and intensive care in 2007. He worked for seven years in the intensive care unit of the cardiac surgery department of the National Cardiology Hospital, and joined our team in August 2007.

Dr. Rositza Petrova- anesthesiologist

Dr. Petrova graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 1999, and at the moment is specializing in anesthesiology and intensive care. She has six years of experience earned in the cardiac surgery reanimation intensive care unit of the university hospital “Sveta Ekaterina”. Dr. Petrova has been a member of our team since the middle of 2007.

Maria Borisova - head nurse

Head nurse Borisova graduated from the Medical College “Yordanka Filaretova” of the Sofia Medical University in 1994. She has a bachelor’s degree in “Social Activities”, and a master’s degree in “Professional Development Management” from the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. During the period of 1994-2004, she worked in the cardiology department of university hospital “Sveta Ekaterina” and between 2004 and 2007 she was a member of the cardiology team of the university hospital “Lozenetz”. She has been a member of our hospital since June 2007.
