The department team consists of physician-specialists and specialized nurses, most of which have trained and specialized abroad.

Professor Stephan Gabrovski- chief neurosurgical consultant

Professor Gabrovski is a leading neurosurgeon, who created the neurosurgical training centers in the university hospital Alexsandrova, university hospital Tzaritza Yoanna, and the general hospital Pirogov. He has specialized in Saint Petersburg and in Paris, and has authored over 100 scientific publications, several medical scholarly works and textbooks, and successfully defended his doctoral thesis on the theme “Microneurosurgery on the Third Ventricle”.

Dr. Slavomir Kondoff - department chief

Dr. Kondoff graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 1994, and earned his neurosurgical specialization in 2002. Between 1996 and 2006, he was a member of Professor Gabrovski’s team in the neurosurgery clinic of the general hospital “Pirogov”. He began his career with Tokuda Hospital Sofia in 2006.

Dr. Kondoff and has a master’s degree in health care management as well as has numerous specializations and completed postgraduate medical training courses including:

• “Neuro-navigation based on Ultrasonography” from the University Hospital Saint Olav in Tronhiem, Norway under the mentorship of Professor Unsgard
• Spinal surgery courses sponsored by the AO-Spine Foundation of Switzerland, and Paris, France
• Neuro-endoscopy courses in the Ekolab Academy in Tutligen and University Clinic Stuttgrat under the mentorship of Professor Hopf in Germany
• Vascular and micro-neurosurgery courses in Bern, Switzerland
• Specialization courses in 9 hospitals within the Tokushukai hospital network in Japan
• Endovascular embolism treatment procedures- Hamburg, Germany and Barcelona, Spain
• Dr. Kondoff has also participated in spinal surgeries in the Paris University Hospital.

Ass.prof. Hristo Tsekov

He graduated medicine in MU, Sofia in 1972. He has two specialties - General Surgery and Neurosurgery. Specialized in Russia and Germany. For 10 yyears ass.prof. Tsekov is Department Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery at University Hospital Alexandrovska and University Hospital, St. Ivan Rilski, Sofia.

Dr. Ivan Angelov

Dr. Angelov graduated from the Plevin Medical University in 1984, and received his specialization in neurosurgery in 1990. He has many years of professional experience from the Lovech General Hospital, and six years of experience working in the Rashid Hospital in Dubai, OAE. In 2004, he began working in the neurosurgery department of the general hospital Pirogov, where he worked until he joined our hospital team.

Dr. Valentin Pelinkov

Dr. Pelinkov graduated from the Plevin Medical University in 1988, and received specializations in neurology and neurosurgery. After his graduation, he began working as an intern in the municipal hospital Cherven Bryag in the neurology department, after which he worked in the Plevin Medical University, the university hospital Alexsandrova, the university hospital Tzaritza Yoanna, and the Military Medical Academy. He has completed postgraduate medical training courses in microsurgery and neurotraumatology, and completed coursework in nueroendoscopy in Stuttgart, Germany. Dr. Pelinkov worked in one of the largest hospitals in Johannesburg, South Africa, and has been a member of our hospital team since we opened to serve the public.

Dr. Nurfet Alioski

Dr. Alioski graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 1999, and received his specialty in general surgery in 2005. He has worked in the first surgery department of the university hospital Alexsandrova under the leadership of Professor Radoslav Gaidarski and Professor Violeta Dimitrova. In 2006, he won a doctoral candidate contest of the first surgery department. He has been working in the field of neurosurgery since the beginning of 2007, under the mentorship of Professor Gabrovski. Dr. Alioski also graduated from the health care management program sponsored by the World Bank and the Ministry of Health.

Nikolina Grigorova- Head Nurse

Head nurse Grigorova graduated from the Medical College “Yordanka Filaretova” of the Sofia Medical University in 1987, and she has additional professional qualifications including: surgical operations, facial-maxillary surgery, thoracic surgery, and parenteral feeding. She has also been officially certified to attend neurosurgical conferences. Head nurse Grigorova has earned 20 years of experience in the neurosurgery department of the general hospital Pirogov, and she has been a member of our team since we opened our hospital.
