Dr. Vasil Yablanski- Department chief
Dr. Yablanksi graduated from the Thracian Medical University in 1996. After his graduation he continued his medical education in the Surgery Department of the Duke University Hospital in North Carolina in the US. He received his specialization in orthopedics and traumatology in 2001. He has also earned specializations in endoprosthesis procedures and additional post-graduate medical training for bone-joint surgery received in Salzburg, Austria.
Dr. Yablanksi earned a Master’s degree in public health from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel.
Dr. Yablanski worked for eight years in the orthopedics and trauma department of the university hospital in Stara Zagora, after which he began working in the university hospital Tzaritza Yoanna. He has been the department chief of our orthopedics and traumatology department since we began serving the public. He is an active member of the Bulgarian Association of Orthopedics and Trauma, and the International Scoliosis Society.
Dr. Adelin Ivanov
Dr. Ivanov graduated from the Thracian Medical University in 1989, and he earned his specialization in orthopedics and traumatology in 1995. In 2005, he received his master’s degree in public health.
He also specialized for 4 years in Mons, Belgium, in the orthopedics department of the Hôpital Inter Universitaire "A. Paré". He has also completed specializations in Turkey and Switzerland. From 1990 to 2006, he worked in the university hospital in Stara Zagora. Dr. Ivanov has been a member of our department team since we opened our hospital.
Dr. Konstantza Aleksieva
Dr. Aleksieva graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 1994, and she received her specialty in orthopedics and traumatology in 2001. During the same year she received her certification from the Bulgarian Orthopedic and Traumatology Association. In 2001, she left for France where she worked for two years in the university hospital Lapeyronie in Montpellier, after which she began working as a team member of the neurosurgical department of the university hospital Guy de Chauliac in Montpellier. Since 2004, she has received further specialization training in hand surgery. During this post graduated medical training she earned valuable experience from university hospitals in US including in New York, Boston, and Little Rock, Arkansas. In November 2006, Dr. Aleksieva joined our orthopedics and traumatology department.
Dr. Evgeni Vlaev
Dr. Vlaev graduated from the Thracian Medical University in 1995, after which he worked in the university hospital rising through the ranks as an assistant, resident, and chief resident. Dr. Vlaev has earned two medical specializations: orthopedics and traumatology, and general medicine. He has specialized several times in Vienna and Salzburg, Austria. He completed a one year specialization in Moscow, Russia specifically for reconstructive surgery of the upper limbs. Additionally, he has completed his certification course for Arthroscopic Joint Surgery. Dr. Vlaev is an active member of Bulgarian Scientists Union, MSF (Doctors Without Borders) , MENSA, and served as a doctor on the Bulgarian Antartic Expedition 2010. He has been a member of our team since our hospital opening.
Dr. Kalin Dimitrov
Dr. Dimitrov graduated from the Varna Medical University in 1998, and received his specialization in orthopedics and traumatology in 2007. Between 1999 and 2002, he worked in the emergency medical center in Shumen, Bulgaria. From 2002 to 2007, he worked in the orthopedics and traumatology department of the General ER Hospital Pirogov located in Sofia. He has been a member of our hospital and department team since the middle of 2007. Dr. Dimitrov has successfully completed European Certification courses in traumatology, and post graduate medical training courses in arthroscopy of knee and shoulder joints. Dr. Dimitrov completed a specialization in the European Surgery Institute in Strasbourg, France for arthroscopy shoulder joint procedures.
Dr. Sergey Stoyanov
Dr. Stoyanov graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 1997, and immediately began working as an orthopedic traumatologist surgeon in the Third Regional Sofia Hospital. In 2001, he continued his professional development working in the premier Bulgarian-American Sofia Clinic where he led the Emergency Medical Care department for over 4 years. During 2002 – 2003, he developed his own GP private practice. He worked as a physician consultant to the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for 3 years. During 2003 to 2008, he worked and specialized in the National University Orthopedic Hospital B. Boychev, Gorna Banya, during which he further specialized in treating more complex cases of bone pathology, onco-orthopedics, reconstructive surgery, individualized endoprosthesis, and treating tumor diseases of the musculoskeletal locomotion system. In 2009, he completed post graduate medical courses to operate specialized foot sole and flat feet diagnostic equipment, and a knee replacement surgery course. Dr. Stoyanov joined our department team in 2008
Dr. Ivan Gerov
Dr. Gerov graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 1999. After his graduation he continued his medical education in the Orthopedic Pediatric Clinic of the General and Urgent Care Pirogov University Hospital. Dr. Gerov received his specialization in orthopedics and traumatology in 2007. He continued his specialization in the Tohoku University Hospital in Sendai, Japan, after which he worked for a year and a half in United Kingdom as a consulting physician. Dr. Gerov joined our hospital team in October 2010. His professional interests are focused upon treatments for fractures as well as bone-skeletal system traumas and injuries amongst children.
Dr. Stanislav Pashov
Dr. Pashov graduated the Sofia Medical University in 2000. He recieved his specialization in ortopedics and traumatology in 2008. In 2001 he began working in the Center for Emergency Medical Care in Sofia. In 2003, he specialized in the Ortopedics Clinic at Tzaritza Yoanna University Hospital, Sofia. Dr. Pashov is a member of the Bulgarian Association of Orthopedics and Trauma. He has completed a specialized medical course in new arthroscopic techniques in the Medical Faculty in Lyublyana, Slovenia and has specialized in shoulder surgery in the Akromion Hospital in Zagreb, Croatia. He joined our department team at the end of 2008.
Svetla Popova - Chief nurse
Chief Nurse Popova graduated from the Medical College Yordanka Filaretova of the Sofia Medical University in 1981. After her graduation, she began working in the general hospital Pirogov, where she earned 25 years of experience, which includes 15 years as a head nurse of the orthopedic and traumatology department. She has been a member of our team since we began serving the public. She is currently is pursuing additional qualifications in the Faculty of Public Health in the Sofia University to earn a specialized bachelor’s degree in nursing care.
