Dr. Kiril Draganov PhD- Department chief

Dr. Draganov graduated from the Plevin Medical University in 1991, and has earned his specializations in general surgery and oncology. After his graduation, he began working in the Regional Hospital in Pavlikeni in the urgent and emergency medical department, after which he began working in the surgical department. During the same period he completed two three month courses in the first surgical department of the general hospital Dr. Ralcho Angelov in Veliko Turnovo. In 1994, he began working in the gall bladder, liver, and pancreatic surgery clinic of the first surgery department of the university hospital Alexsandrova as a senior resident and then as a chief resident. In 2002, Dr. Draganov successfully defended his doctoral thesis on the problems of surgical treatment of liver cirrhosis patients. He has been with our hospital since we opened to serve the public, and he is also our deputy director of medical activities has been the department chief of general surgery since January 12, 2007.

Dr. Stefan Tonev - surgeon

Dr. Tonev graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 1967, and has 41 years of surgical experience.

Over the period of 1969-2006, he was a member of the first surgery team of the university hospital Alexsandrova, where he rose through all the department ranks from intern to chief resident. He worked for seven and half years in Libya, and has 30 scientific publications in national and international medical journals. Dr. Tonev’s professional interest is focused upon gall bladder, liver, and pancreatic surgery and colorectal surgery.

Dr. Veselin Marinov - surgeon

Dr. Marinov graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 1997, and earned his specialty in surgery in 2003. After graduation he began working in the third surgery department in the general hospital Pirogov. During the period of 2002-2005, he worked in the university hospital Lozenetz. In 2005, he participated in a one-year specialization program for liver and pancreatic surgery in Essen, Germany, and as completed a course in transplantation surgery in New Castle, UK. Dr. Marinov has been a member of our department since we opened the hospital.

Tanya Ikonomova- Head nurse

Head nurse Ikonomova graduated from the Public Health Faculty of the Sofia Medical University in 2005, with a bachelor’s degree in management of nursing and health care services with an additional health care management qualification. In 2007, she earned a master’s degree in management of nursing and health care services with an additional health care management qualification from the Sofia Medical University Public Health Faculty. Head nurse Ikonomova has 14 additional post-graduate training certifications including nursing care services quality control, personnel management, and health promotion. From 1989 to 2003, she worked in the general hospital in Alexsandrova in the first surgery department. From 1998 to 2003, she accepted the position of head nurse of the bladder, liver and pancreatic surgery department. In 2003, she was invited to join the surgical team of the university hospital Lozenetz, where she worked as the head nurse of the general surgery clinic. In February 2008, she was invited to become the head nurse of our general surgery department in Tokuda Hospital Sofia.
