Prof. Kiril Draganov, MD, PhD, DSc, Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and General Surgery Clinic Chief He was born in 1964. He graduated from Medical University Pleven. He has two specialities - "Surgery" and "Oncology".
After his graduation in 1991 he began workimg in the Regional Hospital Pavlikeni - at the Emergency Room and then at the Surgery Department. In the period 1994-2006 he worked in the Clinic of General, Liver and Pancreatic Surgery (First Surgery) of the University Hospital "Alexandrovska" as an Assistant, Senior Assistant and Chief Assistant. He is part of Tokuda Hospital's team since its opening in 2006, Head of General Surgery Department, currently a Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and General Surgery Clinic.
He defended two doctoral dissertations - one in 2002 for the acquisition of Doctor's Degree (PhD) on the topic Surgical Treatment of Patients with Hepatic Cirrhosis and Portal Hypertension, and one in 2015 for Doctor of Medical Sciences (DSc) - Research on the diagnosis and treatment of liver metastases in various primary tumors.
He is author and co-author of more than 150 scientific papers.
He has specialized in France, USA, Japan. He has completed a number of postgraduate courses in hepatobiliary, pancreatic, laparoscopic surgery, and more. He has a Da Vinci Si certificate, and lead the robotic abdominal surgery program at Adivabem City Clinic Tokuda Hospital which began in December 2018.

Assoc. Prof. Veselin Marinov, MD, PhD, Surgeon, Gastrointestinal Surgeon, Minimally Invasive and Laparoscopic Surgery Department Chief Dr. Marinov graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 1997, and earned his specialty in surgery in 2003. After graduation he began working in the third surgery department in the general hospital Pirogov. During the period of 2002-2005, he worked in the university hospital Lozenetz. In 2005, he participated in a one-year specialization program for liver and pancreatic surgery in Essen, Germany, and as completed a course in transplantation surgery in New Castle, UK. Dr. Marinov has been a member of our department since we opened the hospital.
George Vasev, MD, Surgeon, Gastrointestinal Surgeon, Minmally Invasive Surgeon Dr. Vassev graduated from Higher Medical Institute, Sofia, Bulgaria with Master’s degree (1994).

After he finished his academic study he began his doctor’s career at First Surgery Ward of Regional Hospital of Pernik, Bulgaria (1994 - 1997). He continued his specialization in General Surgery Ward of First City Hospital of Sofia, Bulgaria (1997 - 2000), where he obtained the specialty “SURGERY” (1999). After that he was a Resident in the Clinic of Emergency Surgery and Clinic of Laparoscopic Surgery of the Higher Military Medical Institute, Bulgaria (2000 - 2006). He is a member of Tokuda Hospital Sofia, from the beginning of the hospital (2006).

He gained considerable experience in laparoscopic bariatric surgery during his work in Jaber Al Ahmed Armed Hospital, Kuwait (2010/11). For a while he was a member of the medical mission of EULEX during the recreation of the Republic of Kosovo (2013, 2014). He has a post graduating continuum in Bulgaria, Italy, Slovenia and Kuwait with topics: “General and operative surgery” (1999), “Ambulatory phlebectomy” (2004), “Laparoscopic surgery” (2005), “Groin hernia repair with hernia system” (2007), “Bariatric surgery” (2010).
Dr. Vassev’s professional interest is in applying of the methods of minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgery in the treatment in the abdominal and emergency surgery. He is a member of the Bulgarian Medical Association, Bulgarian Surgical Society and European Association of Endoscopic Surgery. Dr. Vassev speaks Bulgarian (native), Russian (very good), English (very good) and Arabic (basic, mainly medical) language.

Stefan Tonev, MD, Surgeon, Gastrointestinal Surgeon Dr. Tonev graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 1967, and has 41 years of surgical experience.

Over the period of 1969-2006, he was a member of the first surgery team of the university hospital Alexsandrova, where he rose through all the department ranks from intern to chief resident. He worked for seven and half years in Libya, and has 30 scientific publications in national and international medical journals. Dr. Tonev’s professional interest is focused upon gall bladder, liver, and pancreatic surgery and colorectal surgery.
Dimitar Rusenov, MD, Surgeon, Gastrointestinal Surgeon Dr. Rusenov graduated in medicine from the Medical University of Sofia in 2000. From 2002 to 2010, he worked in the University Multidisciplinary Hospital ‘Aleksandrovska’. He has held positions in almost all hierarchy levels – a clinical intern in 2003, an assistant in 2006 and a senior assistant in 2007. In 2007 he acquired a specialisiation in General and Abdominal Surgery. He has been a part of the medical team of the First Surgery Deparmtent in Tokuda Hospital Sofia since 2010.

Dr Rusenov has published material in both Bulgarian and International Medical press, he has participated in a large number of scietific research forums in Bulgaria and abroad. He is a member of the Bulgarian Surgical Association.
Bogomil Borisov, MD, Surgeon Dr. Borisov graduated in medicine from the Medical University of Pleven in 1991. In 1998 he specialised in ‘General Surgery’. In the period 1992-1999 he gained medical experience in Second Surgery Department in General Hospital Vidin. Since November 2009 he has worked in the District Dispensary for Oncological Diseases with Stationary Sofia City. In 2008 he became a member of the First Surgery Clinics of Tokuda Hospital Sofia. He speaks German and Russian languages fluently and has good English language speaking skills.

Head nurse Tanya Ikonomova Head nurse Ikonomova graduated from the Public Health Faculty of the Sofia Medical University in 2005, with a bachelor’s degree in management of nursing and health care services with an additional health care management qualification. In 2007, she earned a master’s degree in management of nursing and health care services with an additional health care management qualification from the Sofia Medical University Public Health Faculty. Head nurse Ikonomova has 14 additional post-graduate training certifications including nursing care services quality control, personnel management, and health promotion. From 1989 to 2003, she worked in the general hospital in Alexsandrova in the first surgery department. From 1998 to 2003, she accepted the position of head nurse of the bladder, liver and pancreatic surgery department. In 2003, she was invited to join the surgical team of the university hospital Lozenetz, where she worked as the head nurse of the general surgery clinic. In February 2008, she was invited to become the head nurse of our general surgery department in Tokuda Hospital Sofia.
