Last generation extracorporal lithotripter at Tokuda Hospital Sofia

The Urology Department at Tokuda Hospital Sofia is equipped with last generation apparatus for kidney stones fragmentation. This modern equipment is very beneficial for noninvasive and miinimally traumatic treatment of patients suffering from kidney stone disease.

"Due to the modern methods the manipulation is performed in the out-patient center and recovery period is shortened to a minimum," says the head of Urology Dr. Kaloyan Davidoff. "The equipment is adapted also to treat children with kidney stone disease" adds the specialist.

What is Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy

It is a method of extracorporeal breaking of stones in the urinary system by using focused mechanical acoustic waves. They are generated in the apparatus outside the patient's body and are directed under an X-ray control to the stone. Under the focused waves the structure of the stone is destroyed into small pieces and thrown with urine.

What are the advantages of Tokuda?

• The sector of Extracorporeal Lithotripsy of Tokuda Hospital is an integral part of the Department of Urology, that allows us to provide complex treatment of kidney stone disease and its complications.
• The procedure is performed ambulatory, i.e. there is no need in patient's hospitalization, but it is preferable the patient to stay for 24-hour monitoring.
• In more severe and complicated cases of urinary stone disease we have a whole arsenal of modern methods of urological complex treatment.
